System Engineer (Linux & Monitoring)
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced System Engineer to support and maintain Linux-based infrastructure within a large-scale enterprise environment. The role focuses on system reliability, monitoring, observability, automation, and operational excellence. You will be responsible for ensuring platform stability, resolving incidents, improving monitoring capabilities, and driving automation initiatives that enhance overall service quality and performance.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced operational support for Linux-based infrastructure across physical, virtualized, and containerized environments.
- Monitor system health, performance, and availability using observability and monitoring tools.
- Design, implement, maintain, and optimize monitoring, alerting, logging, and dashboard solutions.
- Investigate and resolve incidents, service requests, and infrastructure issues in a timely manner.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to reduce recurring incidents.
- Manage the lifecycle of Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, including provisioning, patching, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Develop and maintain automation solutions using Ansible and Infrastructure-as-Code principles.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, network, and application teams to ensure end-to-end service reliability.
- Participate in change management activities and ensure system changes are implemented according to established standards.
- Contribute to research and development initiatives by evaluating new technologies, monitoring tools, and automation opportunities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing platform stability, monitoring coverage, and operational efficiency.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide support outside standard business hours when required.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of experience supporting Linux-based infrastructure in enterprise-scale environments.
- Strong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Hands-on experience with Red Hat Satellite 6.x.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing monitoring and alerting solutions.
- Strong experience with PRTG monitoring tools.
- Solid understanding of metrics collection, log aggregation, alerting, event correlation, and performance monitoring.
- Experience with Ansible Automation Platform, including playbooks, roles, and workflow automation.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code concepts and automation best practices.
- Experience with Git-based version control systems such as GitLab or Azure DevOps.
- Understanding of CI/CD processes for infrastructure and configuration deployment.
- Experience with container technologies, including Podman and OCI containers.
- Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and Linux OS diagnostic skills.
- Experience working within ITIL-based environments, including Incident, Problem, Change, and Service Request Management.
- Fluent in English and either Dutch or French.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to participate in an on-call support rotation.
Nice to Have
- Experience with VMware virtual environments.
- Familiarity with NetApp storage technologies.
- Knowledge of Trend Micro Deep Security, ClamAV, or similar endpoint protection solutions.
- Exposure to Palo Alto, Check Point, F5, and InfoBlox technologies.
- Scripting experience with Bash and/or Python.
- Experience with hardware lifecycle management and firmware upgrades.
- Vendor management and support coordination experience.
- Understanding of integrating security events into monitoring and alerting platforms.
